Do Korean Citizens Need a Visa to Vietnam?

Yes and no – depending on the purpose and duration of your stay. According to current regulations:

Visa Exemption for Korean Passport Holders:

Korean citizens are granted visa-free entry into Vietnam for up to 45 days.

Exemption applies under the unilateral visa waiver policy and bilateral agreements for holders of diplomatic and official passports (HCNG, HCCV).

If staying beyond the 45-days exemption, a visa (or equivalent documents such as a temporary residence card or 5-year visa exemption) is required.

How to Apply for a Vietnam Visa for Koreans

Korean citizens can apply for a Vietnam visa through two main methods:

Apply for an E-Visa (Electronic Visa)

The e-visa is a fast and simple online process via the Vietnamese Immigration Portal. No complex paperwork is required—just basic information including:

Passport details

Trip itinerary and purpose

Expected date of entry and accommodation in Vietnam

Entry Approval Letter (Visa on Arrival)

Koreans can also apply for a visa via an entry approval letter—issued by the Vietnam Immigration Department upon request by a sponsoring company, organization, or individual in Vietnam.

You will receive the approval letter via email and use it to get your visa at:

The Embassy/Consulate of Vietnam in South Korea.
