A family visit temporary residence card (TRC) in Vietnam brings remarkable benefits to foreign nationals who wish to live and work long-term in the country.
Let’s join Tân Văn Lang to learn everything about the requirements, documents, and procedures for obtaining a family visit TRC in Vietnam!
A family visit TRC is issued to foreign nationals who have family members that are either Vietnamese citizens or foreigners legally residing in Vietnam.
This card allows them to stay long-term without having to extend visas repeatedly — saving both time and money.
It is typically granted to:
Foreigners who are parents, spouses, or children of Vietnamese citizens.
Spouses or children under 18 years old of foreigners who already hold a TRC in Vietnam or qualify for one under Vietnamese law.
Tân Văn Lang – Trusted Vietnam Temporary Residence Card service with fast, professional, and transparent support.
The 3-year family visit TRC not only helps foreigners reside legally in Vietnam but also offers several important advantages:
Continuous residence without leaving Vietnam
Cardholders can stay in Vietnam for up to 3 years continuously without renewing visas or exiting the country periodically — saving time and travel costs.
Eligible for driver’s license conversion
Foreigners with a valid TRC can apply for or convert their international driver’s license to a Vietnamese one, enabling convenient and legal travel.
Property ownership (non-land assets)
A 3-year TRC allows foreigners to own valuable assets such as apartments or cars, helping them stabilize their life during their stay in Vietnam.
Open a bank account easily
With a valid TRC, foreigners can open local bank accounts, receive ATM or credit cards, and perform financial transactions (withdrawals, payments, savings) conveniently.
With these benefits, the 3-year family visit TRC makes living, working, and settling down in Vietnam much easier for foreign family members.

Can I work in Vietnam with a family visit TRC (TT)?
No. The TT TRC does not grant work rights. To work legally, you must convert to a work TRC or obtain a work permit exemption if applicable.
Can I switch from a work TRC to a family visit TRC?
Yes. Foreigners with a work TRC (LĐ) who are married to a Vietnamese citizen can switch to a TT TRC (maximum 3 years).
After switching, they may continue working with a valid work permit exemption and must terminate the previous labor contract.
