Step-by-Step Instructions for Completing Form NA8
Here are detailed instructions on how to fill out the NA8 temporary residence card application form:
1 – Full Name: Enter the foreigner’s full name in CAPITAL LETTERS.
2 – Gender: Check the appropriate box for the foreigner’s gender (Male/Female).
3 – Date of Birth: Enter the foreigner’s date of birth.
4 – Original Nationality: Enter the foreigner’s original nationality (if they previously held different citizenship).
5 – Current Nationality: Enter the foreigner’s current nationality (if they previously held different citizenship).
6 – Occupation/Position: Accurately enter the foreigner’s occupation or position if sponsored by a company for work. (If already holding a work permit, the purpose should be “work”; if sponsored by a Vietnamese relative, the purpose should be “family visit”).
7 – Passport: Enter passport information including passport number, type, validity period, and issuing authority.
8 – Address and workplace information of the foreigner before entering Vietnam.
9 – Expected entry information such as time and port of entry (based on the entry stamp in the foreigner’s passport).
10 – Authorized temporary residence period, address, and contact number: The temporary residence address on NA8 must match the address information in the foreigner’s temporary residence confirmation.
11 – Purpose of temporary residence card application: If holding a work permit, the purpose should be “work”; if sponsored by a Vietnamese relative, the purpose should be “family visit”.
12 – Requested duration for temporary residence card: For work purposes, follow the validity period of the issued work permit; for family visits, the duration is 3 years.
Finally, the applicant must sign and clearly write their full name.

Important Notes When Filling Out Form NA8
When completing Form NA8, please note the following:
- Applications with Form NA8 must be submitted directly to the Immigration Management Authority. For NG3 category residence cards, submit to the authorized agency of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
- Two portrait photos required, size 2×3 cm, clear face, taken within the last 6 months, white background (one photo attached to Form NA8 – size 3×4 cm – and one loose photo).
- When writing the entry purpose, clearly state whether working for a company in Vietnam or visiting relatives.
- In the reason section, clearly specify: work, high-skilled labor, investor, study, or family visit, accompanied by supporting documents.

Application Process for Temporary Residence Cards
The process includes the following steps:
Step 1: Prepare Documents
General documents:
- Official letter requesting temporary residence card issuance (Form NA6 for organizational sponsors, Form NA7 for individual sponsors)
- Application form for temporary residence card (Form NA8)
- 02 photos, size 2×3 cm (one attached to Form NA8, one loose)
- Documents proving eligibility for temporary residence card consideration

Step 2: Submit Application In-Person or Online
Applicants can choose one of two methods to submit their temporary residence card application:
In-person submission at the Immigration Management Department:
- In Hanoi: 44-46 Tran Phu Street, Ba Dinh District, Hanoi City
- In Ho Chi Minh City: 333-335-337 Nguyen Trai Street, District 1, Ho Chi Minh City
Online submission through the National Public Service Portal or the Ministry of Public Security Public Service Portal. If additional documents are required, applicants send them via postal service as instructed.
Upon submission, the receiving officer will review and request fee payment:
- If documents are complete and valid, the officer will accept the application, print and issue a result collection notice. The applicant then pays the fee as instructed and receives a payment receipt. For online submissions, fees can be paid online with an electronic receipt.
- If documents are incomplete or invalid, the officer will guide the applicant to supplement properly or notify through the National Public Service Portal or Ministry of Public Security Public Service Portal.
- If conditions are not met, the application will not be accepted. The applicant will receive a written response stating reasons or be notified through the portals.
*Applications are accepted from Monday to Saturday morning weekly (except Tet holidays and public holidays).
Step 3: Receive Results
- Bring the result collection notice, identification documents, and receipt to collect results directly at the Immigration Management Department, Ministry of Public Security. For postal service collection, follow the postal service provider’s instructions.
- If the temporary residence card is not granted, a written response stating reasons will be provided or notification will be sent through the National Public Service Portal or Ministry of Public Security Public Service Portal.
*Results are released from Monday to Friday weekly, except holidays and Tet.
