Applying for a Vietnam work visa is a crucial step for foreigners who plan to enter Vietnam for employment. The Vietnam work visa not only serves as a legal bridge for the entry process but is also the key requirement that allows foreign workers to participate in official and lawful work activities in Vietnam.
During the visa application process, foreigners may choose between obtaining an entry approval letter or applying for an e-visa, depending on their specific purpose, intended length of stay, and current regulations. These procedures are commonly used for various purposes such as tourism, business trips, commercial activities, investment, and more.
For individuals wishing to remain in Vietnam beyond 90 days, visa extension becomes an essential next step. This process is carried out in accordance with Vietnamese law, helping foreigners maintain their legal status throughout their working and living period in Vietnam.
Work visas for foreigners coming to Vietnam are categorized as LD, LD1, and LD2, in accordance with Clause 16, Article 8 of Law No. 47/2014/QH13[1] and Article 1, Clause 3, Points e and g of Law No. 51/2019/QH14 [2] of the National Assembly of Vietnam.
LD1 Visa – Issued to foreign workers who are eligible for work permit exemption in Vietnam (except where an international treaty provides otherwise).
LD2 Visa – Granted to foreign workers required to obtain a work permit to work legally in Vietnam.
If you’re considering a professional move to Vietnam, securing a Vietnam work visa is a top priority

To invite and sponsor a foreign worker to enter Vietnam, the process typically includes four main steps:
Step 1: The sponsoring company or individual submits a notification letter and related documents to the Immigration Department. This notification only needs to be done once, unless there are changes to the file.
Step 2: The sponsor submits an official visa request letter directly to the Immigration Department or via the online immigration portal if eligible for electronic transactions.
Step 3: Within five working days from receipt of the application, the Immigration Department reviews and issues a written response to the sponsor and informs the relevant Vietnam visa-issuing authority abroad.
Step 4: Upon approval, the sponsor notifies the foreign applicant to obtain the visa at the Vietnamese Embassy or Consulate abroad.
With the right preparation, the process becomes far simpler than many expect
