Vietnam visa for Chinese citizens 2025: Full requirements & process

Applying for a Vietnam visa for Chinese citizens is now very simple through the Vietnam E-visa system or an Entry Approval Letter. Processing time is fast — typically from just 3 working days. In this guide, Tân Văn Lang will walk you through the detailed procedures and all related fees for entering Vietnam as a Chinese citizen.

Does Vietnam exempt Chinese citizens from visas?

Vietnam does not currently offer visa-free entry for holders of ordinary Chinese passports. According to Vietnam’s immigration regulations, Chinese citizens with regular passports must apply for a visa before entering Vietnam. Visas can be obtained at Vietnamese embassies or consulates in China.

However, there are certain cases in which Chinese citizens are eligible for visa exemption:

  • Holders of diplomatic passports, official passports, or ordinary passports used for official duty, are exempt from visas for up to 30 days, in accordance with Vietnamese law.
  • Family members (spouse, children, parents) of diplomatic officers and administrative-technical staff working at Chinese Diplomatic Missions or Consulates in Vietnam, when visiting these officials.
  • Chinese airline crew members (including crew of third-country airlines operating flights between China and Vietnam) are exempt from visas for up to 30 days, for normal crew rotation or due to force-majeure reasons.

Chinese citizens traveling to Vietnam today may apply for entry under two main visa types: E-visa or Entry Approval Letter. If they already possess valid documents equivalent to a visa, such as a Temporary Residence Card or 5-year Visa Exemption Certificate, they do not need to apply for a visa.
